The only place that I have seen that it’s large enough to harvest but still difficult is Pokegama Bay. Pokegama Bay is, in many years, choked with rice with a single channel going through it. Unfortunately, most of the time the water is rather shallow and there’s a lot of log… ah… wash-down of logs… whole trees… so it’s difficult to pole through it. So I, ya, I’m… there were a number of band members that have talked to me that… ah… have mentioned that… you know… their grandfather… whatever, you know… harvested rice, back… you know, in the turn of the century type stuff. And there’s, there’s… I’ve read a number of writings and diary journal-type… ah… entries from ah… from voyageurs and from… uh… people who ah lived or visited the umm… Fond du Lac Fort, you know, by Mission Creek there, umm, that described wild rice being quite abundant.
